We pick up litter and leaves from Mission sidewalks.

Thank you top patrons!
My name is James. I have lived in the Mission (first Folsom, now Capp) since 2011. I am an artist (see astronaut.io), entrepreneur, and former rocket scientist. I am passionate about applying my skills to improve the lives of everyone in our community.
Litter often clutters my block, but in 2020, amid the coronavirus, the problem grew. To fix this, I decided to pay for supplemental cleaning using my own money. I connected with a great person who agreed to sweep my block every day.
The block transformed from litter hotspot to among the cleanest in the Mission. When I told a couple neighbors about my project, some offered to help me pay, which led me to launch Clean Streets as a simple way for neighbors to contribute monthly.
With community support, Clean Streets continues to sweep litter every day. In August 2020, we expanded service to a block on Valencia, and, with your support, we hope to add more blocks in the coming months.
Nope, the City will not proactively remove litter from sidewalks. In general, they sweep roadways and empty public trashcans; residents and businesses clean sidewalks.
You and your neighbors pool resources to activate service on your block. Service extends up to 500 feet of continuous sidewalk (one side of a long block).
100% of your contribution funds litter pickup. Neither Clean Streets nor James (the founder of Clean Streets) take any profit.
Workers get paid 1 month in advance via their choice of cash, venmo, paypal, or cashapp.
I identified excess litter as a concrete opportunity to pursue an underlying ambition of mine to create good, stable jobs in a post-covid, rapidly automating world.
